So You Want To Open Your Own Shop
When I first heard of CafePress.com years ago, I assumed like most people that anything on the internet was possibly a scam, so I passed right on by their link. But then one morning several years ago I saw them again on Good Morning America. I do not recall the design that was on the show that day but I do remember that as they were talking about some pop culture event they mentioned CafePress sales were going through the roof.
This was my time to go back to the site and take another look. Of course it said you could open a free shop and I am always nervous about free anything on the internet, but I went ahead and signed up anyway. I set my shop up...never put a single design up and simply forgot about it. Until one day , I was watching the news and once again CafePress in the news. Some guy makes Team Anniston shirts to support Jennifer Anniston during her divorce and guess what ... sales through the roof. I had to give it a bit more thought, what was this CafePress? And could it really be as great as it sounded?
Over the next few months more CafePress news mentions about the shirts like Run Katie Run and Free Katie or even Dick Cheneys Hunting Club. Well you get the idea; all of these great t-shirt ideas originated with CafePress. If it's in the Pop Culture today, Tonight there will be a shirt on CafePress to support your side on the event. So I gave in; I went back to CafePress and I reopened my shop and I add designs to it daily. And yes I make money playing in Adobe Photoshop creating design after design and I get so excited when each one sells. My little Photoshop hobby became a second job for me and will soon be my only business venture.
I mean you simply can't go wrong. You supply the content of the design, whether it be a few words on a shirt or photographs you have taken or a fun design with some clipart. The possibilities are endless. Artists, photographers, graphic artists, and people who can type a few words sell their designs and really make money at it.
CafePress warehouses all of the t-shirts, sweatshirts, posters, coffee mugs and lots more gifts. CafePress ships orders out to all of your customers. They handle all of the customer service issues and returns. They do it all for you. You only open your shop, load your designs onto the products via their website and customers search out the items they like, purchase them and you make commission on eack item that sells. You set your own prices, so you determine how much you make on each item. You can open as many free shops as you like,or you can start a premium shop which allows you to house all of your products in one storefront.
I started with a free shop but changed to premium rather quickly because its easier to let friends and family know about your items when you can send them one link instead of lots of mini links with one product on each site. Plus it helps when a customer finds one of your designs in the CafePress Marketplace and can link to all your items at once. If they like one of your designs chances are they will like more of them which means many more sales for you ...plus return visits, which is always good for business.
You really can't go wrong. This is a great business for single moms or anyone looking for a way to make a little money on the side or as a full time venture.
Open a free shop to try it out...or go for the gusto and open a full shop at less than $7.00 a month and discover what millions of CafePress shop owners and customers already know.
